T.O.P. Safety System from KME

At KME, firefighter safety is our TOP concern.  The KME TOPTM (Total Occupant Protection) system is a complete package that is designed to keep ALL occupants safe in the event of an accident. TOP includes:

  • Fully crash tested and certified cabs that meet or exceed exceeded all NFPA, SAE, and ECE R29 standards
  • A safe and strong cab design that includes a 1/4" engine enclosure and substructure of 3/16” and 1/4" tubing.
  • RollTek rollover protection system for front and rear occupants
  • Systems to assist with alerts and driver assists for prevention of rollovers
     
 
 

Rollover protection

Apparatus rollovers account for a significant percentage of firefighter fatalities every year. That’s why KME offers RollTek in every Predator we build. RollTek is a complete rollover occupant protection that happens within a fraction of a second. By the time you realize the danger, RollTek has already done its job. From detecting the roll, to securing your seat into the safest position and deploying the inflatable head cushions, the system reacts before you do. KME believes that ALL occupants should have this protection, not just the driver and officer. That’s why we’ve designed TOP to include protection for EVERY outside seating position, front and rear.

 

 
 

Crash Tested

KME has crash tested our cab at the leading crash facility in the nation. The new KME Predator chassis successfully exceeded all NFPA, SAE, and ECE R29 crash specifications. When the unthinkable happens, it doesn’t just come from one angle. That’s why we engineered the KME Predator to protect ALL occupants in the event of an accident. Unmatched performance in front impact, side impact and roof crush tests prove that the KME Predator keeps its occupants safe.

E-Zone stops rotation or elevation when the operator attempts to position the ladder in a pre-defined zone eliminating the possibility of cab or body damage.

E-Cush provides feathering cushion for the extension/retraction system, elevation system, and outrigger functions.
